Dakshineshwar Kali Temple
It is a renowned Hindu temple in Dakshineshwar near Kolkata. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali and it is the most visited temple of the country. The temple was built by Rani Rashmoni in 1855, a true devotee of Goddess Kali and later on famous mystic of Bengal ‘Ramkrishna Paramhansa’ also became associated with the temple. In the compound there are 12 shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva and one temple of Radha-krishna.
Howrah Bridge is a bridge over the Hoogly River. The bridge is considered as ‘symbol of Kolkata ’. The bridge connects the two cities Howrah to Kolkata carrying traffic of 1 lac people and is one of the busiest bridges of the world. It is the sixth largest bridge of its category in the entire world. All the movies shot in Kolkata depict this Bridge as the symbol of the city.
Victoria Memorial Hall was built between 1906 -21 in memory of Queen Victoria of England. It lies at the banks of Hoogly River near Nehru Road. On 4 Jan 1906 King George 5 started the construction and it was ready in 1921. It is kept as a museum and several things related to the British Empire are preserved carefully here in the museum. It is often regarded as mark of the city.
Indian museum is the largest and the oldest museum of India. The museum was founded in 1814 by Asiatic Society of Bengal and the founder Curator was Nathaniel Wallich. This museum is known for rare collections of artifacts, ornaments and Mughal paintings. The museum also has a 4000 year old Egyptian Mummy, the renowned Ashoka Pillar, fossil skeletons of pre-historic animals and many more collections.
This temple is a Hindu temple built by the industrialist Birla family. In the year 1996 temple was set open for the public and it took 26 years to be completed. The temple was inaugurated by Dr. karan signh and it houses the statues of Radha, krishna, Goddess Durga. Along with this the temple also has the statue of Lord Shiva in meditation mode.
This is a largest cricket stadium in the country in the mode of seating capacity and it is also known as the ‘Most iconic cricket stadium of the country’ . The stadium is located in BBD bagh area of Kolkata . the stadium was established in 1864 and the crowd in this stadium is said to be full of energy and is by far the most enthusiastic spectator in India. The stadium is the home of the IPL team ‘Kolkata Knight Riders’.
